The Interior Fit-Out market in the UAE remains one of the Gulf’s fastest growing industries. A recent report conducted by Ventures ME shows that the interiors industry is valued as the highest within the building sector, with its annual worth being $9.2 billion in 2016. The region wide study further stated that the value of interior-based design and fit-out spend in the GCC rose from US$15.5bn in 2016 to US$17.7bn in 2017. This has been attributed to the near-constant and the ever-changing personal preferences.
The UAE registered the highest Interior and Fit - Out spend in the region, and this is expected to grow especially with the upcoming Expo 2020. The outlook of the market, therefore, remains positive.
Fit-outs can be described as the final stage of the design process where the functional space is brought alive and made suitable for occupation. Fit-Outs are done inside of a building space.
Fit outs are technically classified into CAT A and CAT B. Category A (CAT A) is used in general to describe the level of fit-out that is provided to the tenant by the developer. These include basic MEP works, raised floors and suspended ceilings, and other technical surface finishes. Category B (CAT B) is used to describe the final touches made to the functional space based on the requirements of the tenant. Works done here include installation of IT equipment, soft and hard furnishing, lighting, internal woodworks, partitions and extensions, flooring, painting, air conditioning and branding.
The interior contracting and fit out sector in the UAE is expected to see tremendous growth in the coming years especially in the Hospitality, F&B and retail sectors. The huge surge of development presents endless opportunities to Fit-Out contracting companies to innovate, grow and remain profitable in business.
A Fit Out contracting company should be able to assure their clients of high-quality finishes at a reasonable price. It is also cost effective and time-saving for a client to use the services of a company that does both Interior Design and Fit out as it is likely to smoothen the process of workflow, saving time and money. A good Fit-out contractor should also be able to use an examination of function by applying systems such as Value Engineering to reduce cost and present realistic options to the client. The contractor should be able to predict and estimate likely setbacks that may cause delays, ultimately leading to losses in liquidation damages.
